Starting in Spring 2017, Flourish is an on-going programme of school holiday arts workshops for local families with primary school aged children.

Programmed and managed by Lisa Nash, Flourish welcomes families back into Acava's Maxilla Walk Studios (formerly the Maxilla Children’s Centre) to get creative and enjoy learning new skills with professional artists.

The programme started as a one-off project funded by The West Way Trust, however following the devastating Grenfell Tower fire, the need for a safe, creative and family friendly space for local people to come together was evident. The City Bridge Trust funded Acava to extend the project provision throughout the summer holidays during which time we worked with 30 adults and 59 children (26 families). We have now rolled out the programme to deliver workshops through the school holidays in the 2017/18 calendar.

For each holiday we run a new and different programme. Past workshops have included tote bag printing, plastic prayer flag making, making spinning galaxies and ‘Story Creative’ workshops combining story-time fun and original art techniques.

Although Flourish will not be taking place at Maxilla this school holiday, we are working with artists to deliver a remote programme for families to participate in at home. This includes an exciting new stop-frame animation initiative.
