Natalie Mitchell presents Ways of Noticing at Barham Park
Natalie Mitchell, Ways of Noticing

As part of their ACAVA Hosts: Barham Park Studios Residency, artist and curator Natalie Mitchell is developing new work exploring place, attention and collective experience.

This October, Natalie will be joined by artist Amelia Tan for Ways of Noticing, a free participatory workshop inviting people to experience Barham Park and its surroundings from different perspectives.

Through wandering, listening, recording, movement and observation, participants will explore familiar surroundings in new ways. Creative prompts will encourage people to slow down, notice what they might usually pass by and consider how experiencing a place through someone else’s perspective can change what we see, hear and remember.

The workshop forms part of Natalie’s wider residency research. With participants’ permission, some of the sounds, images and other material gathered may contribute to the audiovisual work they are developing at Barham Park.

Natalie was selected for the 2026 ACAVA Hosts: Barham Park Studios Residency, ACAVA’s annual career development opportunity for a London-based artist from a Global Majority background who considers social engagement integral to their studio practice.

Alongside studio space, financial and career development support, the residency provides funding for artists to develop public engagement through their practice and connect with ACAVA’s wider community in Brent.

ACAVA Hosts: Barham Park Studios Residency is generously supported by Arts Council England through ACAVA’s National Portfolio Organisation funding.

As ACAVA’s current Artist in Residence at Barham Park, Natalie is developing a new audiovisual work exploring our relationships to London and how we move through, remember and experience the city.
