Project Spaces

Blechynden Street Studios, London

About Blechynden Street Studios

ACAVA's Blechynden Street Studios is a purpose built complex, completed in 1999 and comprises 21 artist's studios, our head office and a community workshop. The site is located a minute's walk from Latimer Road tube station in North Kensington.

What are project spaces?

Blechynden Street Studios offer a number of project spaces, of differing sizes, that are available for periods of about six months to one year (these terms a flexible).

We encourage applications from individual artists, curators, producers, groups and organisations who are engaged in, or support, contemporary arts practice or socially empowering cultural projects that align with the values of ACAVA's mission as an educational arts charity.

Project spaces are allocated according to a range of criteria that ACAVA will refer to when making decisions on who to select. The criteria are designed to ensure that our studio communities are vibrant, active, social, creative and socially engaged.

We want project spaces to be used by as diverse range of practitioners and practices as possible and to provide creative opportunities for all.

ACAVA will prioritise proposals that demonstrate or support:

  • Quality of work
  • Ambition
  • Emerging practitioners
  • Artists working in a professional context
  • Clearly defined plans with identifiable outcomes
  • Increase participation in the contemporary arts
  • Reach and engage diverse communities
  • Support the professional development of artists
  • Socially engaged art practices
  • Engage with contemporary issues such as the environment, urban space and community
  • International collaboration
  • Increase opportunities for those underrepresented in the arts (including: BAME, LGBTQ and disabled or socio-economically disadvantaged practitioners)
  • Disabled practitioners or those with additional access needs
  • Likely amount of time the space will be used per week

Proposals can be made on a rolling basis (there is no deadline) but should follow the application process set out below. We aim to process applications within two months' of submission.

Currently, we cannot offer subsidy or funding for project spaces, however, we are open to considering supporting funding applications to do so.
We aim to identify funding that will allow us to deliver supported programmes and we are open to conversations about future partnerships and collaborations.
