Artspace

Blechynden Street Studios
Artspace provided creative projects for people experiencing mental health and substance misuse problems.

Artspace offered a supportive, non-medical context for the exploration and production of art, quality projects across a wide range of media, encouragement for clients to be actively involved in the planning of projects and the opportunity to exhibit artwork. Work at Artspace was not analysed and no previous art experience was required of participants.

The project was run by a team of artists in close collaboration with healthcare professionals and it seeked to provide appropriate workshops for different levels of skill and interest, including one-off projects and ongoing group sessions run in hospitals, day care services, community settings and art studios.

Artspace offered workshops in a variety of mediums including: batik, brickwork, creative writing, digital imaging, drawing, installation, mixed media, mosaic, murals, painting, papier mâché, photography, plaster relief, printmaking, sculpture, willow weaving and wood carving.

Artspace worked with West London Mental Health Trust, Central & North West London NHS Trust, Look Ahead Housing and Care, Imagine Mental Health, community mental health teams and other likeminded organisations.
