Venture Photography Exhibition 2017.

Join us on Thursday 30th November from 5pm for the culmination of this year’s Venture Photography.

The Venture Photography project has just completed it's second year. On 30th November work created by local people of all ages in projects and workshops delivered by ACAVA artists at the Venture Centre, St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Ark Brunel Primary Academy and with Bikeminded, by bicycle on the streets and in the parks of Kensington and Chelsea, will be on display at ACAVA Maxilla Studios (the former Children's Centre), 4 Maxilla Walk, W10 6NQ.

For exhibition dates, times and more information please visit the dedicated page here.

Free Books for participating primary school children.

We are very lucky to be joined on the 30th November by the London Children's Book Project, who will be setting up a pop-up book shop, offering free books in exchange for tokens given out to the primary school pupils who participated in the workshops. Come along to find out more about the scheme, how you can donate barely used books, or how to link up the scheme with your primary school.

The Creative Community at ACAVA Maxilla Studios.

We will also be on hand to tell you about the many ways in which Maxilla Studios are being used by the community, for the community. As a children's centre the building was a safe and much loved space for local families. As the current meanwhile tenants of Maxilla Studios we are building on that legacy, ensuring that alongside our community of artists, who pay for the up-keep of the fabric of the building and hold regular art exhibitions, there are numerous ways in which local people, and particularly families, can access the creative and safe spaces we care for. Current initiatives and partnerships include:

FLOURISH - our flagship programme of school holiday arts projects for local families. Managed by Lisa Nash (former parent and governor of the Children's Centre), we will be running free arts workshops and activities for local parents, carers and primary age children throughout the school holidays in 2018

THE FOREST SCHOOL - the garden at Maxilla is managed by the Golborne and Maxilla Forest School, during term time children make use of the facilities at Maxilla Studios during their sessions in the garden. In school holidays we are excited to announce that we will now be able to make use of the garden for our Flourish programme.

JUST SOLUTIONS 123 - peer support groups meet at Maxilla Studios a number of times per week, for talking, yoga and other mental health support provision.

THE OLIVE BRANCH - are creating a secret garden in a forgotten space behind the Maxilla building. Regular sessions are held at weekends for volunteers to come and help transform the space into a multi-sensory, ecological wonderland.

GRUPO DE CAPOEIRA FILHOS DE ANGOLA - regular affordable classes and training sessions for local people. A new beginners class will be starting in the new year.

If you are a local community group or organisation who would like to access space at Maxilla do get in touch to discuss further. Please email me on iniven@acava.org or call the ACAVA office on 0208 960 5015.
