Looking for artists to deliver workshops in Kensington and Chelsea

We are pleased to announce that ACAVA and Action Disability Kensington and Chelsea (ADKC) have received funding by Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to run Inclusive Art Kensington and Chelsea, a yearlong service user-led programme of arts workshops, projects and an exhibition.

Beginning in October 2016 we are looking for 5 individual artists to each deliver a one-off half day workshop to a group of ADKC service users.

The budget for each workshop is:
Artist Planning and Prep, 2 hrs @ £31 per hour: £62.00
Artist Delivery, 3 hrs @ £31 per hour: £93.00
Materials: £25.00
TOTAL: £180.00

Sessions will take place in Studio 1, Blechynden St where ACAVA equipment and basic materials in stock will be at your disposal.

Artists need to demonstrate an inclusive and person-centred approach to workshop delivery. ADKC is an organisation run and controlled by disabled people. It supports disabled people to live independently, campaigns for an inclusive society and believes disabled people should have the same opportunities and quality of life that non-disabled people take for granted. The participant group will be small and the studio fully accessible to ensure that people with a range of access needs are able to participate fully in the project.

Once the 5 workshops have been delivered we will work with the participants to select two of the artists and invite them to deliver a further 6 session project during the Spring 2017.

In June 2017 work from the initial workshops as well as the longer projects by the two selected artists will be shown at ACAVA’s Maxilla Studios as part of an event celebrating the project’s outcomes and the impact of creativity on wellbeing. The event will be part of the official London Creativity and Wellbeing Week 2017 programme.

We are asking artists to submit a short proposal for a half-day workshop, no more than 1 side of an A4 page along with their C.V., up to 3 images of relevant work and a paragraph about their approach to working in a person-centred and inclusive way.

The exact dates for the workshops are yet to be confirmed, although they will happen on Mondays, Tuesday mornings, or Thursdays. For planning purposes please state your availability to deliver a workshop on these week days in October/ November.

Please submit your proposal via email to Isabella Niven, ACAVA Programme Manager, to iniven@acava.org no later than 9am Tuesday 23rd August. The programme will be finalised by the end of that week in order to begin promotion of the October workshops.
