Flourish: The Seasons

We will be celebrating the past year of creative family fun this half term, at Maxilla Studios. All artwork created over the week (17-22 February) will be displayed as part of the project celebration on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd. Flourish: The Seasons is an initiative for families living in North Kensington.

All activities will be taking place at ACAVA Maxilla Walk Studios, 4 Maxilla Walk, London W10 6NQ.


Bower Making, with Ursula Kelly

Monday 17 February, 2pm-4pm
Family workshop

Inspired by bower birds and their colourful, inviting 'bowers', families will construct sculptural 'nests' using modroc, and collect found objects to create welcoming pathways that help find the different bowers within the gallery space.

Seasonal Stories, with Ali Williams

Our resident storyteller Ali will work with props, puppets, movement and the children to create an hour of magical and fascinating seasonal tales!

A Chorus of Birds (Part Two), with Josh Bilton

Tuesday 18 February, 2pm-4pm
Family workshop

Families will explore art as performance and create playful props, masks and costumes for imaginary birds living in the Maxilla garden. The group will think about birdsong and create their own for the imagined menagerie.

Build a Wormery! With Charlotte Hawthorne

Wednesday 19 February, 10.30am-12.00pm
Family workshop

Even in small outdoor spaces we can compost and recycle food waste to fertilise plants. Come and help build a wormery for the Forest School.

The Forest is Alive with Colour, with Camilla Brendon

Wednesday 19 February, 2pm-4pm
Families will create a suspended forest canopy in the project space using sculptural materials, found objects and printing techniques. The artwork produced will form part of the exhibition at the end of the week.

365 Degrees, with Flora Duley

Thursday 20 February, 2pm-5pm
Teens only
Investigating the notion of 360 degrees in relation to the past year, teens will explore time and space and create an experimental and immersive installation using handmade camera obscuras, film, video and sculpture.

Project Celebration!

Bring your family along to celebrate and enjoy the work, and take part in a Light Drawing activity with artist Ursula Kelly.
