Flourish Programme: Bloom.

Free family art this school holiday for North Kensington families directly and indirectly affected by Grenfell Tower fire. All artists are responding to the theme of Bloom and a celebration of Spring.

 
Read on for further details and to book your place for any of the activities. All the workshops are running from Maxilla Studios, 4 Maxilla Walk, W10 6NQ (the former Children's Centre under the Westway).
 
 
 
Programme:
 
 
 
Wednesday 4 April 2pm-4pm
Make a Tree of Sound with Fola Babarinde
 
 
Families will make percussion instruments from everyday objects and recycled materials. They will carefully hang their creations in the trees of the Maxilla garden, and together with Fola, drum up Spring by playing their creations. 
 
Suitable for children aged 4+ and their parent/carer. 
 
 
 
 
Friday 6 April 2pm-4pm
Busy Bouncing Bees with Sophie Lodge
 
 
Work with #24 Hearts artist Sophie and create large carnivalesque bouncing bees - they will brighten up your room and are a great addition for the garden or a flowerpot.  There will be an opportunity to film the bees in action in the Maxilla garden as part of the workshop.
 
Suitable for 6-12yrs and their parent/carer.

Storytelling for all the Family with Ali Williams
 
 
Come and enjoy a mix of stories – some traditional, some new, some local, some from far away, some improvised and some your very own! Some will arrive as we sit in a circle, others will take us on a journey.  
 
Join us, as we explore the theme of 'Bloom' using music and puppets and everyday objects in a world of stories.  Ali will tell a different collection of stories on Monday and Wednesday.

Floral Delights with Ursula Kelly
 
 
Have a fun afternoon with regular Flourish artist Ursula Kelly visiting the Maxilla garden to make observational drawings, then transforming these into colourful 3D floral headbands and garlands, inspired by the headdresses worn by artist Frida Kahlo.
 
Suitable for 4+ and their parent/carer.
 
 
 
Tuesday 10 April 2pm-4pm
Suspended Eco-Sculptures with Carolina Rodrigues
 
 
Working with artist Carolina and taking inspiration from green spaces and an imagined future without cars or pollution, families will have fun rethinking and imagining new ways of living whilst creating multiple sculptures on pulleys, suspending them under the Westway.
 
Suitable for 6yr-12yrs and their parent/carers.

Spring-time Egg Marbling with Aimee Parrott
 
 
Welcome the arrival of Spring by decorating eggs whilst learning about the art of marbling surfaces. Working outside if the weather is fine, we will learn how to empty the eggs, forage for leaves to use as stencils and dip the eggs into the patterns we have created in the marbling bath. 
 
Suitable for 4+ and their parent/carer.
 
 
 
Thursday 12 April 2pm-4pm
Flower Power Felting with Heather Fiona Martin
 
 
Work with Flourish artist Heather and learn how to make felt from wool. Create beautiful garlands of flowers to hang up in the window and welcome Spring.
 
Suitable for 6-12yrs and their parent/carer.
 
 
 
Friday 13 April 2pm-4pm
A Chorus of Birds with Josh Bilton
 
 
Design, make and decorate a fabulous bird mask. Learn about different bird songs and create your very own to perform (whilst wearing your mask) in the Maxilla garden.
 
Suitable for all - children must be accompanied by an adult.
