First Exhibition of 'Assembly': Der Spiegelsaal by Denise Bryan

Join us for the inauguration of 'Assembly', a series of three exhibitions of sculptural installations curated by artist and lecturer Denise Bryan, on Thursday 21st May 6-9pm at ACAVA's Central Space in West London.

First Exhibition
Der Spiegelsaal - Denise Bryan

Open Friday to Sunday 12-6pm (or by appointment) until Sunday 31 May.

These series are an opportunity to bring together works made by three London based artists: Denise Bryan, Joanna Sands and Silvina Soria. Bryan and Sands studied sculpture in London and have shown extensively throughout the UK and internationally. Soria studied sculpture in Buenos Aires and now lives and works in London, her work has been exhibited widely both in Argentina and Europe.

The three installations to be shown are large scale and share certain formal qualities; all the pieces are assembled from separate elements or units. By using this method of construction the exhibiting artists create a kind of spatial geometry to explore their ideas. Each installation has been created as a site-specific work, the first two exhibitions in the series are pieces that are being given a second life in the Central Space; the third installation has been created specifically for the Central Space. “Der Spiegelsaal”, “19 Princelet” and “Rooting”, each ask questions about how sculpture relates to the architecture in which it is placed and how site-specific installations can be transformed when they are recreated in alternative spaces.
