Calling photographers for well-being project in North Kensington

Venture Photography Project – Photographer’s Brief - 2016/17

ACAVA is delighted to announce a new 3 year project in partnership with the Venture Community Association. The project, funded by Public Health England through the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, is designed to provide local people in north Kensington with the opportunity to engage in a creative, active and social activity; getting people moving, thinking creatively, reducing social isolation and improving wellbeing.

Each year of the project will encompass 3 terms of 10 weeks in which a photographer will work with 15 local people (18+) once a week to develop a body of work for exhibition at the end of the year.
We are inviting ACAVA members to express interest in delivering a term to
respond to this brief by providing:
– an up to date C.V.
– 3 images of relevant work
– a brief project plan for a 10 week term (no more than 1 side of A4)
– a more detailed session plan (no more than one side of A4)
– names and contact details for two referees
It is essential for you to:
– demonstrate local knowledge of the north Kensington area, with particular emphasis on the Golborne Rd area
– have excellent communication skills
– have a passion for people and inclusion
– be adaptable and accommodating
– be consistent and reliable
– be happy to work outside in all weather!
Each session will start with refreshments at the Venture Community Association, 103A Wornington Rd, North Kensington, London, W10 5YB. You will need to incorporate a 45 minute theory or technical session each week for which you will have access to the Venture Centre’s computer suite. In addition each week must include 45 minutes of outside activity, getting people walking, exploring and engaging with the local area.
You will have access to ACAVA’s photography equipment (including a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, tripods and projectors) and we have a modest budget to purchase up to 3 DSLR cameras for the full project.
However you are not limited to this and we welcome proposals that make use of any specialist equipment you may have access too, or proposals that make use of pin-hole or other non digital photographic techniques. There is also a small materials budget for each term that can be used for hire of equipment if required or the development of film or access to a dark room.
Please submit your proposals by email to Isabella Niven, ACAVA Programme Manager, iniven@acava.org before midday on the 22nd April 2016.
Interviews will be held on the 3rd/ 4th May between 10am and 2pm at the Venture Centre. Selection will be made by a panel including Venture Centre users.
If you would like to discuss your proposal prior to submission please email Isabella Niven to arrange a suitable time for a phone call.
