Call for proposals from artists to deliver family-oriented workshops this half term

“Flourish: Movement” February Half Term Family Workshops at Maxilla

We are pleased to announce that ACAVA has received funding from Caritas to continue, and build upon, our Flourish family art programme run from our Maxilla Walk Studios W10, for those local families directly and indirectly affected by Grenfell Tower fire.

This means Flourish will continue during each school holiday until October 2018. Each series of workshops will explore different themes with a broad range of artists.

We are seeking five practitioners experienced at delivering community art, particularly Arts for Wellbeing projects, to each deliver a workshop during February half term and contribute towards a final celebratory event later in the year.

Artists must be either ACAVA members or live/work in North Kensington.

Sessions will be delivered in the weekday afternoons at Maxilla, with access to the gallery and communal spaces in the studio building.

Practitioners will also have access to the garden during this time. Please note, as it is also run as a Forest School, no changes can be made to the space without prior agreement from the leaseholders and would need to be negotiated through ACAVA.

We are asking for responses from artists interested in designing and delivering workshops during half term - Monday 12 February to Friday 16 February, responding to the prescribed theme of MOVEMENT. We are interested in a broad range of artistic practices and there may be further opportunities throughout the year to deliver workshops on other themes.

Artists need to develop workshops allowing for not only families who have booked on to the workshop, but also those who may just turn up on the day. Our target is for five families to attend each workshop, however, as the popularity of Flourish grows, this is often more. Activities should encourage participants to work together as a family unit as well as collaborate with others.

In addition to delivering a workshop during half term, all five facilitating artists will need to be available to attend the final event, to share and celebrate the workshop outcomes later in the year, dates TBC but likely to be November 2018.

The budget for each facilitator is:

  • Artist Planning and Prep, 2 hrs @ £15.50 per hour (non-facilitation rate): £31.00
  • Artist Delivery, 2 hrs @ £31 per hour (plus 1 hrs for 30mins pre and post workshop for set up/ tidy up): £93.00
  • Materials (basic materials and equipment from ACAVA can be used): £ 40.00
  • Final Event –TBC – 2 hrs @ £15.50 per hour (non-facilitation rate): £31.00

TOTAL £195.00

Artists need to demonstrate experience in working with children and adults with an inclusive and proactive approach. Each session will be supported by a Project Assistant, and our Flourish Project Coordinator Lisa Nash will be working closely with facilitators, families and ACAVA to ensure the project runs smoothly.

We are asking artists to submit a short proposal (no more than 1 side of A4) for a two hour workshop, responding to the prescribed theme, along with their C.V. and up to 3 (small) images of relevant work.
