Call for artists and arts groups for project in Brentwood

Brentwood Borough Council is working with Essex County Council and the Association for Cultural Advancement through Visual Art (ACAVA) to develop some affordable temporary artists’ studios in the centre of Brentwood in an empty retail unit.

ACAVA is an educational charity with a 38 year history of providing artists’ studio buildings and community and educational arts provision. ACAVA currently runs 24 buildings with 600 occupants in London and beyond, including the successful development of studios at Old Hadleigh Fire Station and in Gatehouse Arts in Harlow.

It is envisaged that the Brentwood studios will be available for 2 years and that a small flexible community and exhibition/ gallery space will be included.

The project is at an early stage and the Council is now seeking a variety of artists (from designers and sculptors to fine artists) and local arts groups who are interested in the project to register their details. Interested parties will be invited to come along to an informal consultation morning at the unit on Saturday 7th February, where they can view the empty space and speak with the Artistic Director of ACAVA about how they work and what their needs are in order to inform the development of the project.

Anyone interested in this exciting project should register their details by emailing lucy.gill@brentwood.gov.uk or calling Lucy on 01277 312645.
