Call for Acava members with a socially engaged or participatory practice

ACAVA has received Arts Council England funding through Merton Arts Space to match professional artists with local groups from the Wimbledon area.

We have funding to work with four different artists, each matched to a community group or organisation, over a six week period from February 21st 2017 until March 29th 2017.
Each group will have a weekly 2 hour session with their artist, working to a brief drawn up in collaboration with local people.
We are currently recruiting community groups to participate in the project, they will be Wimbledon based and our selection will reflect a cross section of the local community.
Once our community partners are confirmed we will be working to match them with the most suitable artist to meet their needs. At this stage we are asking for ACAVA members to express interest in the project and join a pool from which the four artists will be selected.
The project is part of Merton Arts Space, and the sessions will take place at Wimbledon Library between 21st February and 29th March 2017, in the following time-slots (interested artists must be available to deliver sessions in at least one of these weekly):
  • Tuesdays 10:30am - 12:30pm  &  1:30pm – 3:30pm
  • Wednesdays 10:30am - 12:30pm  &  1:30pm – 3:30pm
Final exhibition/ celebration Saturday 1st April 2017
All participants will need to be able to make their own way to and from the sessions and available to attend the time-slot allotted to their group or organisation. The timings of the sessions mean we will not be able to work with school age children unless in partnership with a school or home schooling group.
Artist Fee: £930 (based on 30 hours at £31 per hour), materials: £250 per project.
If you are interested in this opportunity please submit the following by email by noon on Wednesday 11th January 2017

  • ACAVA joining date
  • A short statement about your experience of working with communities and the types of groups you are interested in working with
