ACAVA receives second year of support from Kensington and Chelsea Foundation

ACAVA has been awarded a second year of support from Kensington and Chelsea Foundation for the project Grenfell Memorial Community Mosaic.

The Grenfell Memorial Community Mosaic "Bloom" is a partnership between Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre and ACAVA. Located at the foot of Grenfell tower, the mosaic has become a focal point for the North Kensington community to celebrate their strength, solidarity and spirit, whilst honouring the lives of those men, women and children lost in the tragedy. Hundreds of members from the local community have participated and engaged in this impactful project which honours the 72 lives lost in the fire.

Now on its third phase, the Grenfell Memorial Community Mosaic project will facilitate sessions with schools in North Kensington and groups from phase two whose sessions had been suspended during lockdown. From July 2020 to June 2021 a further 15 mosaic leaves will be completed and installed at the base of tower. Once completed, the 24 leaves will symbolise the 24 storeys of the tower.

The remaining open community sessions will be announced in due course. Please follow @ACAVAFlourish on Twitter for announcements.

Al Manaar and ACAVA will continue to offer paid part-time photography work placements for young adults. This unique opportunity will have young photographers work alongside our commissioned photographer Zute Lightfoot and empower young people to develop their visual communication skills with experienced and expert support.

Al Manaar and ACAVA would like to thank the Kensington and Chelsea Foundation for their support.
